Web sites with information about the teaching of literacy

    • Children's literature web sites A list of useful sites concerned with various aspects of children's literature.
    • National Centre for Language and Literacy: University of Reading A very useful source of publications about the teaching of literacy, including our own Writing Frames, Writing across the Curriculum, Critical Literacy and Practical Ways to Teach Reading and Writing for Information.
    • The Children's Book Council One of the very best children's books web site.
    • The Reading Room Some brilliant ideas for developing reading by Wisconsin teacher Doug Buehl.
    • The National Literacy Trust This is, in my opinion, the best literacy site in the UK. Up to date, informative and very useful. You can also join in the discussions. Brilliant!
    • Literacy Matters This is an excellent site which is packed with literacy teaching ideas and resources, as well as sample literacy hour plans.
    • National Research Center on English Learning & Achievement An excellent US site, especially for people interested in research into literacy and language teaching.
    • CIERA Home Page This is the archive page of the former Center for the Improvement of Early Reading Achievement, a major US literacy research centre. There is plenty of material here still about research and practice in literacy teaching.
    • Teaching Ideas: Literacy This site has plenty of useful teaching ideas for literacy (and other subjects).
    • The Literacy Zone Woodlands Junior School in Kent maintain one of the best teaching ideas sites on the Internet. Plenty of ideas here for teachers.
